Monica Bellucci to star in ‘Spectre’…
What is refreshing to see is Monica Bellucci cast as one of the Bond girls. Bellucci who is surely one of the most beautiful actresses to grace the screen in the last twenty years turned fifty years old in September and will hopefully inspire other producers to look at female actresses over the age of thirty-five. Bellucci IS an actress, winning a European Golden Globe in 2005 as well as countless nominations in a career spanning some twenty-four years and sixty films. She starred in The Matrix Trilogy and her portrayal of Mary Magdalene in ‘The Passion of the Christ’ won her many plaudits.
A highly successful model who became the ‘face’ of Dolce & Gabbana in 2012 she has modelled for Dior and posed for countless publications including Vanity Fair, GQ, Maxim and Men’s Health.
As for the Bond film, time will tell. Craig has said that the script is better than Skyfall, which isn’t difficult in our opinion. Despite its success it was mostly forgettable with farcical, Roger Moore-style antics and story lines culminating in a ridiculous ending.
Locations are said to be Mexico, Morocco and Rome and the title would suggest a return to a Blofeld-type villain. Here at retroculturati.com we have become somewhat jaded with the franchise but credit where it is due for casting Bellucci and an actress with an acting future ahead of her.
