The Spy Who Came In From The Cold to be adapted for television….
Good news for John Le Carré fans this week with the announcement of a new adaptation from his classic book The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. Well, we hope it is! Ardent fans might well wince at the thought of anything other than the original but we must hope for the best.
To be produced by Paramount TV and the producers of the last Le Carré adaptation The Night Manager, The Ink Factory. The screenplay will be written by Simon Beaufoy which can only be a good thing and hopefully he will stick to the essence of the original story.
We can but hope for better casting than was the case with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and I suppose it goes without saying that Le Carré himself will be given his usual ‘executive producer’ role.
So I shall be positive about this, after all, The Night Manager was nominated in twelve Emmy categories this week so they obviously feel they are on to a winning formula. Who will play Leamas, Smiley and Control will be key and interesting to see.
